David Paul Boutwell, age 62, a longtime resident of Montgomery, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on August 28, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Paul Boutwell and Bonnie Phillips Boutwell, and is survived by his sister, Tracy Lynne Boutwell.
Born prematurely in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on March 25, 1963, weighing only 3.5 pounds, David defied the odds from the very beginning. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1981 and spent much of his youth enjoying the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
David worked as a skilled sheet metal fabricator for 35 years with Bradley Plumbing and Heating. He had a passion for tinkering with anything mechanical and was known for his generous spirit—always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Depending on the day, he could be described as either the kind of man who’d give you the shirt off his back or a lovable, crotchety old fart.
Above all, David was a storyteller. He had a gift for spinning tales—funny, heartfelt, and unforgettable—that brought people together and kept family and friends entertained for hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society or your favorite charity.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Alex Palomario officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather at Leak Memory Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. to process to the graveside service.
