Dian was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Janette Koen; her children, Eileen Marie Simoneau (married to Steven Paul Simoneau); Cheryl Anne Petersen (married to Eric Lawrence Petersen); and Stephen William Samelson (married to Suanne Waller Samelson); and her grandchildren, Joseph William Samelson (married to Blaire Bayliss), Rebecca Samelson Webb (married to Jonathon David Webb), Erica Dian Petersen (married to Dane Nels Jessen), MaryKathryn Barrett Samelson, and Trevor James Simoneau.
Dian was born on July 8, 1938 to Walter White and Faye Nell White in Albany, California. She grew up with her sister Janette in Richmond, California and graduated from San Francisco State University where she majored in music. She always considered California her home, and loved to visit her friends and family there throughout the years.
Dian was a bright shining light and made friends wherever she went. As a military spouse she relocated frequently and immediately made a home for her family. She was beloved by her neighbors, the schools where she was a substitute teacher, the children in her preschool classes, the wives of other Air Force officers, and her coworkers at US Air/Piedmont Airlines.
She loved her family. She enjoyed sharing about their accomplishments, but especially those of her “perfect” grandchildren. Dian loved to travel, and with several friends from her airline days, was able to visit countries all over the world. With nothing but a map and a small bag they would find interesting sites and food, and of course collected coffee mugs from every place! Her favorite trip was always the last place she had been, most recently to California to watch her granddaughter’s wedding.
Dian was a cancer survivor and remained positive and determined throughout her difficult treatment. Thirty years later she was still showing that independence and spirit in her life. She was a member of the Church of Christ and loved her ladies Bible study. Dian loved music, theater and movies.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10:30 am, at University Church of Christ, 5315 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, Alabama, where friends may begin visiting at 10:00 am.
