Donald Boyce Farnham, age 99, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 peacefully at his home in Montgomery, AL. He was born on May 12, 1919 in Morrisville, Vermont where he spent his days horseback riding the mountain trails. After graduating from Norwich University, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1947 as a bomber pilot. While stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, he met Frances Elizabeth Castellow and married on December 2, 1945. After leaving the US Army Air Corps he graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in pharmacy in 1949. He was co-owner of McGehee Brothers Drug store from 1951 until his retirement in 1984. During his retirement years, he enjoyed reading, traveling and volunteering at Medical Outreach Ministries. The Exchange Club of Montgomery presented Don with the Book of Golden Deeds 2005 Volunteer of the Year Award. He was active at Frazer United Methodist Church for over forty years. Even though he lived in Montgomery, he never lost his love for Vermont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Harriet Farnham (Morrisville, Vermont); brother, Willard Boyce Farnham (Essex Junction, Vermont); and sister, Hilda Farnham Coppes (Nappanee, Indiana). He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Frances Castellow Farnham; children Sarah Farnham Tyus (Roger), Donald Boyce Farnham Jr. (Charlotte), and Janet Farnham Shults (Krel); 5 grandchildren, Thomas Shane Tyus (Bethany), Kathryn Jane Farnham, James Boyce Farnham (Katie), Kayla Frances Shults, and Thomas Jacob Shults; and 4 great grandchildren, Alex, Abby and Owen Tyus and Wyatt Boyce Farnham and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Thursday, July 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at 12:00 on Friday, July 27 at Greenwood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Leak Memory Chapel at 1:00 p.m.
