Donna (DJ) Alexander of Alexander City, AL passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 with her daughter and daughter-in-law by her side leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness and devotion to family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alexander City, AL for many years. DJ had retired from the State of Alabama, but most recently had worked at Total Fitness at Russell Medical.
To her daughter (Cameron), she was more than a mother - she was a best friend. They often described themselves as "two peas in a pod", a perfect mother-daughter duo who shared laughter, tears, adventures, and unwavering support. Their bond was one of deep
friendship, trust and love.
DJ was a woman of extraordinary strength and spirit. She faced life's challenges with resilience and grace, rarely without a joke close behind. Even in difficult seasons, she found ways to bring joy to those around her. She lived with heart, humor, and courage,
showing those she loved what true strength looks like.
She carried a vibrant flame within her - a light that illuminated every room she entered. Affectionately known as a little fireball, she inspired and uplifted everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her warmth, adventurous spirit, and enthusiasm for life were unmistakable.
She will be remembered as a lover of travel (especially the beach), a connoisseur of good food, an adventure companion, a trusted confidant, and a devoted cheerleader to those she loved most. Her encouragement gave others the courage to "just go for it" even when fear stood in the way.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. Her presence lives on in the lessons she taught, the strength she modeled, and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will forever remain a guiding light in
the hearts of those who loved her.
She is survived by her daughter Cameron (Alina) Alexander, step-sons Stephen (Donna) Alexander, and Scott Alexander, sisters Mary Smith, Linda Cross, Jeanette (Gary) Freeman, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law James (Marty) and Denise Alexander, several
grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Michael Alexander, her daughter Renee, mother Myrtie (Opal) Rogers, father Buck Mitchell, her brother Jimmy Ray Mitchell, brother-in-law Ted Smith, father-in-law and mother-in-law Woodrow and Virginia
(Bubba) Alexander.
The family would love to thank all the committed and wonderful Doctors, nurses and staff at all the hospitals and facilities she visited including Grandview Hospital in Birmingham, Russell Medical, Adams Rehab, Amada Senior Care, Enhabit (especially Nurse Chloe) and Gentiva Hospice. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to her church family at First Baptist of Alexander City for all their help over the years during her cancer battle. With all our hearts, we would also like to thank her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marty and Denise, along with neighbors Brandi, Dwayne and Erin for always being there to help her in her time of need and for always loving her.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, 4-11-26 at 11:00 am in the Parlor at First Baptist Church, 64 Court Square, Alexander City, AL followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 12:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Please join the family after the memorial service in the Fellowship Hall where family and friends can share their favorite stories and memories of DJ. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favorite charity of
your choice in her honor.
