Dorothy Williams Traywick was born March 5, 1929, to her late loving parents, Ford and Viola Williams in Montgomery, Alabama. Dorothy was the 16th child out of 17 siblings, all of whom preceded her in their homegoings. While in Montgomery, Dorothy accepted Christ as a young child. She was baptized and very active at Union Academy Baptist Church, where her father was a deacon. Dorothy took pride in sharing that her father helped build the steeple on the church which is still there today.
While growing up in Montgomery, Dorothy attended and graduated from Cook Elementary School and Alabama State Laboratory High School. Dorothy’s devotion to helping those around her determined her pursuit of professional training. She enrolled in Grady Memorial Nursing School in Atlanta, GA. Dorothy traveled to Chicago, IL, in June of 1950, pursuing employment. Upon arriving in Chicago, she began working in the Pediatrics Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital where she loved taking care of those little babies.
Dorothy joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served faithfully. There, Dorothy met Abe Traywick. They fell in love and were married on January 16, 1954. God blessed the happy couple with two sons, Stanford and Bradford which were her pride and joy. After the birth of Bradford, Dorothy became a stay-at-home mom and worked in the family business beside Abe until his homegoing on December 5, 1982. They were married for 28 years.
Dorothy remained dedicated to her Lord and Savior, walking each day with her hand in God’s hand. She even participated in the Resurrection Sunday Service on April 12, 2017, reciting the Old Testament Books of the Bible from memory.
Dorothy was listening and heard her Savior calling her. She answered His call on April 29, 2017, while surrounded by her family.
Dorothy will be forever remembered and loved by: her two sons, Stanford of Westchester, IL and Bradford (Belinda) of Yorkville, IL; grandson, Bradford Abram (RoSonya) and great-grandson, Bradford Ayden all of Cypress, TX; a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives; her Christ Transformed Lives Baptist Church family; and a host of friends.
A Visitation (11:00am) and Funeral Service (12:00 pm) for Mrs. Traywick will be held on Saturday, May 6 at Union Academy Baptist Church in Montgomery. Graveside will follow at Greenwood Serenity Cemetery.
