Doug was born April 24, 1942 in Okeechobee, Florida to Robert McKenzie Hubbard and Ruth Mildred Heying Hubbard. On August 12, 1977, Doug married Natha Hall Hubbard and the two have been married for 43 years and loved each other deeply. Natha was the love of his life and he was hers. The love Natha showed for Doug during not only their marriage, but during his final years with dementia, was a love that others can only strive for and will never be forgotten by their children.
Doug’s biggest accomplishment was being a father. He taught his children, by example, what it meant to have high morals and always do the right thing. He showed them what a strong work ethic looked like, and finally, he showed them the importance of spending time with family and enjoying life. To him, family was everything. His children lived to make him proud and live up to his expectations to be good people. He loved his children, he fought hard for them, and he was extremely proud of them. Yet, he never stopped worrying about them, even when they became adults. He made sure he told each of them about the latest Dateline episode and let them know so they didn’t fall prey to the perils of the world. Before cell phones came to be and long-distance phone charges were high, he expected you to call home, let it ring twice, and hang up. Once he got that call, he knew you were safe.
He and Natha enjoyed traveling with not only their children, but so many trips with his brother and sister-in-law and best friends, John and Lenora. (who was affectionately known to her nieces and nephews as Aunt Nokey). You could always find them at the lake, the beach, snow skiing, cruising, or exploring places from his childhood in places like Mackinac Island.
Doug and his son, Chris, worked together for years. Doug was known to watch the snow reports, which in turn caused the two to work late into the night so the family could go snow skiing at a moment’s notice. Doug was also known for his love of finding bargains at Lowes, Home Depot and Sears -- because you never know if you can find a good use for it later. He left behind many of those bargain finds and his wife Natha will make sure she puts them to good use.
More than anything else, Doug loved to talk -- to everyone he met. He loved people and he loved getting to know them.
Doug and his younger brother John weren’t just brothers, they were best friends. John left this world only three months before Doug and the love they had for each other was amazing and beautiful and one that many people wish they had.
Doug is survived by his wife, Natha Hall Hubbard, four children, Angie Hubbard Ingram and her husband Kent Ingram, Karen Hubbard Allen, David Russell Hubbard and Richard Christian Bowman (Chris) and his wife, Gale Bowman; eight grandchildren, Russell Ingram, Kara Ashley Ingram, Sean Ingram and his wife, Amy Ingram, Charles Randall Bethea (C.J.) and his wife Alyssa Bethea, Brandon Bethea, Ashlee Allen, Jessalyn Hubbard and Joseph Hubbard; and four great-grandchildren, Wright Ingram, Elizabeth Ann Ingram, Kylie Bethea and Amelia Bethea; brother-in-law Joe Hall and his wife Susan, and brother-in-law Donald Greene, several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved cat Prissy. He is preceded in death by his two parents Robert and Ruth, sister Janet Potts, brother John Hubbard, Great Aunt, Ruth Hubbard, and sister-in-law, Wanda Hall Greene.
Pallbearers: Brandon Bethea, CJ Bethea, Javan Snowden, Dustin Hall, Joseph Hubbard and Greg Hubbard.
