

Earl H. Kelley, age 81 passed away at his home Wednesday, December 1, 2010. He was born to Nancy Culver and Charles Kelley on August 22, 1929 in Coosa County, AL. Mr. Kelley entered the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served in the Korean War on an Ammunition Carrier and Supply Boat carrying personnel, ammo and cargo. During the next 24 years he served on various duty stations. In 1961 he entered the Submarine Service. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1970. After retirement he moved his family back to Rockford in Coosa County, while there he served as Town Clerk, treasurer and purchasing agent. He enjoyed his work while there as Scout Master of BS Troup 165 and he also coached Little League Baseball. After moving to Montgomery he was employed by the State of Alabama, retiring in 1990. Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Collins Kelley; three children, Debra (Jamie) Stewart, Dean E. (Cathie) Kelley, David E. Kelley; brother, Floyd (Myrtice) Kelley; four grandchildren, Marjorie “Todi” Whyte, Devin H. Kelley, Brandon E. Kelley, Sarah A. Kelley and one great-grandchild, Vidalia Whyte. Graveside services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Bill Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends at Leak Memory Chapel on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to one’s favorite charity.
