
GATEWOOD, Edna Boatright, 88 of Montgomery, Alabama, passed into the arms of Jesus on July 27, 2016. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016, at 1:30 PM, at St. James United Methodist Church, followed by her Memorial Service at 2:30 PM, with pastors Walter Albritton, Lester Spencer, and Janeese Spencer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Kitchen Kut-Ups. Edna was born on September 2, 1927, in Americus, Georgia, the daughter of George and Stella Boatright. She attended Georgia Southwestern University. She married Bob, her sweetheart since the 8th grade, and they moved to Greenville, Alabama, after he graduated from Auburn’s Civil Engineering School. They soon moved to Montgomery and raised four children together. She was truly a dedicated wife and mother. “Nanny” also had 8 grandchildren. Edna will be dearly missed by all her loved ones… her adoring family, as well as her many friends and church family. She was a very active and loyal member of St. James United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL, where she served diligently. Edna is survived by her two daughters, Delia G. Clenney (Ray) of Montgomery, AL, and Becky G. Bray (John) of Columbus, GA; two sons, Robert M. Gatewood, Jr. (Shannan) of Midland, GA, and George R. Gatewood (Jennifer) of Phenix City, AL; eight grandchildren, Laura C. Kezar (Zach) of Houston, TX, Robin M. Clenney of Ocean Springs, MS, Carey Bray of Savannah, GA, Anna Bray of Macon, GA, Callie Gatewood, Chandler Gatewood, James Gatewood, and Caroline Gatewood. She is also survived by her sister, Stella B. Jambon of Columbus, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert M. Gatewood, and a sister, Mildred B. O’Dell.
