Ella Janice Johnson Randolph passed from this life on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Born on March 13, 1939, she was just 6 weeks from her 82nd birthday. She was born in Montgomery, AL, and lived throughout the Southeast before returning to Montgomery in 1974 with her husband and family.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and devoted wife of 58 years to Kenneth Lonnie Randolph, she is survived by her children, Stephen Kenneth Randolph, Phillip Johnson Randolph (Shannon), Rachel Janice Randolph Hatcher (Jeff), and Laura Ruth Randolph Alsup (Hunter); her grandchildren, Zachary Randolph (Amy), Aubrey Carroll (Justin), Hayley Bishop (David), Anna Aubrey (Jordan), Olivia Sargent (JD), Ella Tate Alsup, Lillian Alsup, Colin Hammett and Campbell Hammett; her great-grandchildren, Truitt Surbaugh, Rawlin Carroll, Maxwell Carroll and Graham Bishop; her brothers, John Johnson (Hazel) and Richard Johnson (Judy); her sister, Marilyn Terry (Frank); her sister-in-law, Linda Johnson; many cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Bernice (Cagle) Johnson; her brother, David Johnson; and her husband, Kenneth Randolph.
A graduate of Harding University, with a degree in Education, she taught in several Christian schools and academies, and in later years she worked in the Disability Support Services office at Faulkner University. She would tell you, however, that her greatest roles were as a mother, and supportive partner in her husband’s ministry work.
Her greatest joy was her family, and she was as involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members as time and distance would allow. She would celebrate their accomplishments and milestones, making each feel especially loved. She made her home a warm and welcoming place where her family loved to gather.
She will be greatly missed by her family, but leaves with them a lasting legacy of love, grace and beauty, and she will be missed as well by the many others whose lives she has touched.
