

Ellie was born March 26, 1931 in Montgomery, Alabama to Ellie Otis Bird and Alma Grayson Bird. Ellie grew up with an older sister, Janette Kinard (Dan) and a younger brother Deward Bird (Beryl). She attended Sydney Lanier High School.
During her life she worked at Kress's Department Store in downtown Montgomery, Avery's Boutique in Eastbrook, and as a substitute teacher, and assistant cafeteria manager at Goodwyn Jr High.
Ellie married Hubert M. Furlong in 1949. They were married for 67 years. She and Hubert raised 2 daughters, Bonnie K. Campbell (Dennis), and Diane F. Sumney (Jerry). Ellie and Hubert were founding members of Dalraida church of Christ. Together they raised their family to love God, and shine God's light in the community. Ellie was an amazing homemaker and cook, as well as a creative and precise seamstress, sewing for her girls and grandchildren.
Ellie cherished and supported her 5 grandchildren: Brian Campbell, and David Campbell (Neely), Elizabeth Borders (Jason), Victoria Bennett (John), and Margaret Sumney (Graham Marks). She was equally proud of 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
