Cherry, Elzora McGough Smith our loving and loyal mother was called home by her Lord November 11, 2011. She was born March 18, 1922 in Honoraville, Crenshaw County, Alabama, and was predeceased by her parents, Robert Marion McGough and Virgie Thomas McGough, her brother Ray McGough, her son James Robert Smith, one grand daughter, one grandson, and one daughter in law. She is survived by three sons and three daughters- Lois Richardson (Rich)- Yorktown, Virginia, - Ed Smith and Bobby Smith of Montgomery; Harriet Smith- Suffolk, Virginia, Arlin Smith (Cindy) of Prattville and Dorothy Singleton (Ronnie)- Montgomery; her sister, Elna Grace Rowell-Montgomery and her brother, Rex Ervin McGough- Greenville, Alabama. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends. Elzora, a devoted country music fan, rarely heard a blue grass tune that didn’t set her toes to tapping. She resided in Montgomery and Prattville for the past 50 years. Her faith and her friendly nature brought her a lifetime of devoted friends. Her attention to birthdays and holidays always brought surprise and delight to friends and family. Our lives were brightened by her love and attention and she will be greatly missed and long remembered by all. Visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 6pm - 8pm and the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 1pm, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

God saw her getting tired,

a cure not meant to be,

so He wrapped His arms around her

and whispered “Come with me.”

I will never forget this sweet, sweet lady! She was such a good natured, generous person and loved by every kid in the neighborhood. Mrs. Smith always had a smile and a cold biscuit waiting on the back of the stove too. She used to tell me, "I knew you'd be up here sooner or later to get it". What a joyful memory! My prayers and sympathy are with all you during this time.
