AUGUST 5, 1939 – MAY 11, 2021
Amazing is the only word we can use to describe our father, Ernie Smith. Race car driver, merit scholar, avid runner, animal lover and all-around great person is just a minimal description of our dad.
Ernie was born in Montgomery, but grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. He served our country in the Marines and back in Montgomery he worked for the State of Alabama Highway Department. He later started a foreign auto parts business which he had for many years.
Ernie cherished his children Lindsey Smith Hagler, Alison Smith, and Timothy Bateman. He truly loved his wife and partner, Beryl Chesnutt and was also much loved by his sister Melinda Smith Rosenthal (Chuck), David and Kaye Culp, his grandchildren Misha, Madison and Mary Charles Culp, niece Michelle Ray (Chris) and nephew, Zan Rosenthal.
Special thanks go to Capitol Hill Nursing home staff for the excellent care he received.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Montgomery Humane Society.
A Celebration of Life for Ernie will be held on Sunday, June 6th, 2021 at 7257 Wynlakes Blvd, Montgomery,
AL 36117 from 3:30pm – 5:30pm.
Please email [email protected] for details. You may also call Lindsey at 344-544-9451, or Melinda Rosenthal at 423-667-8158.
