Evelyn Brown Jacobs

Mrs. Evelyn Brown Jacobs was born April 3, 1934 to the late Ernest and Lily Mae Brown in Chambers County, Alabama. She is preceded in death by siblings, Ernest Brown, Jr., Roy Brown, Naomi Brown and Era Reese. The Lord called Evelyn into eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2015, 3:00 pm at Baptist Hospital South, Montgomery, AL.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mount Olive Baptist; Waverly, AL.

She was educated in the Lee County School System. Afterwards she moved to Birmingham, AL where she began her Nursing education as an LPN. Later she moved to Hempstead, Long Island, New York where she completed her Nursing education with an Associate’s Degree as an RN. She began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital, Rockville Centre, New York. Evelyn worked for over 25 years at Patterson Nursing Home in Uniondale, New York before retiring.

While working at Patterson Nursing Home she met the Love of her Life, Frank Jacobs. They married on April 29, 1967 in Hempstead, Long Island, New York where they resided for 35 years. Unto this union five beautiful children were born. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Hempstead, NY under the late Rev. Clinton C. Boone.

In 1981, she and her family moved back home to Alabama. She resided in Montgomery where she joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the late, Rev. Edward Martin. She served faithfully in Sunday School Class #1, Prayer Band, Bible Study, Hospitality Committee and Youth Group until her health failed.

Evelyn will be long remembered as a devoted wife and mother in her household; a friend and hard worker in her community; a dutiful helper and giver in her church; a peacekeeper in her family; a blessing to her friends, whatever they needed she gave, and most importantly a child of God.

Leaving behind to cherish her memories is her devoted and loving husband, Frank Jacobs, Montgomery, AL; sons, Larry Jackson, Opelika, AL and Seneca Jacobs, Montgomery, AL; daughters, Marshall Jacobs, Sumter, South Carolina; Sharonne Joy Jacobs, El Paso, Texas, and Natasha (Daniel) Jacobs-Cade, III, Brundidge, AL. Seven Grandchildren, TaShawn and Tevin Jacobs; Sumter, SC, Xavier and Shania Jacobs; Tuscaloosa, AL; I.J. and Irianna Washington; Montgomery, AL and Winston Reed III, Columbus, GA. One great granddaughter, Ty'Layah Jacobs, Sumter, SC. Five siblings; Brother, Charles (Pearl) Brown; Auburn, AL; sisters, Doris and Sammie Lee Brown; Hempstead, NY; Shirley Powe; Montgomery, AL; and Ora Carter; Charlotte, NC. Adopted son, Winston (Tamekia) Reed Jr., Columbus, GA and god children, Keith (Karen) DeGannes, Smyrna, GA. Special cousin Bessie Menefee, Birmingham, AL; Special friends Will (Gloria) Belser, Montgomery, AL; Gladys Robinson, Montgomery, AL, Mrs. Lucy Thomas, Montgomery, AL, Mrs. Barbara Lowe, Montgomery, AL; and Lewis (Dorothy) Webb, Montgomery, AL; Cookie Green, and Florence . A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 1:00PM at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2106 Mill St., Montgomery, AL. Visitation will begin at 12:00PM. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
