After Graduating from Notasulga High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and began studying Entomology. Later, he became an Air Force Medic. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of Alabama in Business Administration and went on to become a hospital administrator. While in the service he was stationed in North Dakota, Japan, North Carolina and Georgia. He retired form the Air Force and then earned his Masters Degree in Personnel Management from Troy State. He went on to work for and retire from the State of Alabama Bureau of Licensure and Certification as a Health Inspector. He was an active member of the Perry Hill United Methodist Church and with the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery .
Felix was a dedicated family man. His devotion to his wife Lucie and son Rodney during their extended illnesses was unparalleled. He is survived by his wife Shirley Lee Thornton. Daughter Kerry Jean Thornton Cherry and her husband , Richard; Son Joseph Ashley Thornton and his wife, Laura; Grandchildren Christopher Adam Cherry, Allison Jean Cherry, Joseph Seier Thornton and Mary George Thornton. Brother Anthony Dwight Thornton and sister Linda Thornton Andrews.
He was preceded in death by his son Rodney Scott Thornton and his beloved wife Lucie Chambliss Thornton, his parents Rupert Thornton and Mary Julia Thornton and his sisters Betty Joyce Thornton and Shirley Thornton Bush.
A funeral service for Felix will be Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Leak Memory Chapel. A private family burial will follow.
