Fernando "Fred" Burgos, age 91, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on Saturday September 8, 2018. Fernando was born April 4, 1927, in Puerto Rico, and he grew up in New York City. Upon an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he moved to Tampa in 1946, where he started his family and worked his way up from Laborer to Superintendent for the Jim Walter Corporation. He moved to Montgomery in 1960, to work for Aronov Construction until he opened his own company, Fred Burgos Construction Company. He served as President of Greater Montgomery Homebuilders Association, on the Board of Alabama Home Builders Association, the Board of Hospice of Montgomery and was a member of the Capital City Kiwanis Club. Fred was awarded Contractor of the year in 1991 by the Army Corp of Engineers. He enjoyed playing golf and going to the lake was his favorite pastime.
He is survived by his four children, Linda Burgos Wood, David Burgos (Diane), Brad Knighton (Lynn)and Stacy Burgos; nine grandchildren, Michele Cacciatore, Maureen Sunde, Michael Childress, Christie Binns, Elizabeth Green, Emily Parker, Mary-Bradley Knighton, Anna Knighton and Katie Knighton , and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Fred will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alacare Hospice.
