Florence Elizabeth Abernathy

Florence Elizabeth Abernathy from Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on April 14, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama, at the age of 84. She was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, on January 30, 1939. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Robert Abernathy. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth (Dondi) Williamson, Kimberly (Neal) Harrison, and Christopher (Sharon) Elliott, as well as her eight grandchildren, Luke (London), Jake, and Brooke Williamson; Matthew, Andrew, and Isabelle Harrison; and Will and Pierce Elliott, and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophie Williamson.

Florence graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1957 and graduated from Reynolds Business College in Sylacauga, Alabama, in 1958. She worked as an office administrator for Baptist Health for 22 years. Florence enjoyed spending time at the lake house with the whole family whether it was the family Easter egg hunt or a summer cook-out. No matter the occasion, Granny (as her grandchildren called her) loved spending time with her family especially when she was spoiling her grandkids. Her grandchildren always enjoyed drinking a Yoo-hoo and eating sweet treats like Star Crunches and Rolo candies whenever they went to her house. Florence was a member of Capitol Heights Baptist Church for over 40 years where she faithfully served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in both the choir and homebound ministries. Her beautiful life glorified Christ and pointed others, including her children and grandchildren, to Him and His saving work.

Florence’s Celebration of Life service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama on Wednesday, April 19th. Visitation is at 1:00 P.M., and the service will begin at 2:00 P.M. with graveside to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate offerings given in her memory to Capitol Heights Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
