Florene Mae Briley, 94, born in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025. Born on February 21, 1931, Florene was the eldest daughter of Eunice and James F. Briley. She dedicated more than 40 years of her life to Montgomery, Alabama Fire Department, retiring at the remarkable age of 80.
Florene was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Tanis Lewis, her brother James J. Briley, Sr., her nephew Jeffrey Lewis, and her great-niece Taylor Thompson. She is survived by her brother-in-law Mark Lewis, her sister-in-law Peggy Briley, nieces Ramona Thompson (Dan) and Lisa Russell (Mark), her nephew James Briley, and niece-in-law Linda Lewis. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews Mallory Mueller (Pete), Chad Russell (Ruth), Adams Thompson (Chyna), and Lara Russell, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews Marlo Mueller, Murray Mueller, and Jensen Russell.
Florene will be remembered for her lifelong dedication to public service, her love for her family, the University of Alabama football team, and her enduring spirit.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a visitation to be held at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, located at 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, on November 24, 2025, starting at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Graveside service will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, also at 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, beginning at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Montgomery Fire Department in Montgomery, Alabama.
