Franklin A. “Al” Brewer, 73, of Hope Hull passed away on Wed., Feb. 13, 2013.Franklin was born in Atlanta, Georgia and has been a long time resident of the River Region. He served two tours in Vietnam and then served with the Alabama National Guard as a Recruiter. Al retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after 26 years of service to his country. Al was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He served as a lay minister and also sang in the church choir. He and his wife operated the food pantry for the church for many years. Al was active in the Emmaus community and enjoyed attending their retreats. He was passionate about his Lord, his church, his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents Reynolds and Lillian Brewer and his brother Jim Brewer. Al is survived by his wife Charlotte Brewer; Daughters: Wendy Finney of Opelika, AL, Robin (Tommy) Miller of Morriston, FL; Son: John (Janet) Brewer of Opelika, AL; stepsons: James E.(Susan) Davis of Muncie, IN, Timothy L. (Nora) Davis of Marion, IN; Brother: Jerry Brewer, Clakston, TN; Grandchildren: Chris Rodgers, Aaron Brewer, Troy Varrow, Julie Doler and David Brewer; Great Grandchildren: Kaylee Doler, Ashlyn Doler, and Aiden Rodgers. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at Leak Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Samaantha Lewis and Rev. Linda Tarver officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to the American Diabetes Association.
