George was born in Greenville, Alabama to George Harvey Owens, Sr. and Eulyn Brantley Owens. He and his mother lived in Old Texas (Monroe County) for three years until his father returned from service in WWII. His heart never really left Old Texas where his parents and grandparents were born and raised. He maintained the home place for many years until it burned. At that time he, his sons and nephews built a camp house where he enjoyed countless weekends gardening and hunting with his three boys, grandchildren and extended family. George established a private family cemetery there as a final resting place.
George graduated from Lee High School and Troy State University. He joined the National Guard when he was seventeen and was a Master Plumber until he retired. He is fondly remembered for many creative inventions and industrious endeavors throughout his life.
In his latter years George struggled with many health issues but he always kept a grateful heart and a joyful outlook on life. His courage and spirit were an inspiration. George was kind, gentle and generous by nature and enjoyed the very simple pleasures of life.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Armstrong Owens and his three sons; George Bradley Owens (Amy), Charles Bart Owens (AmyJo), and Gregory Roy Owens. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Brent Gregory Owens, Brittany Owens Bolt (Dakota), Mary Hagen Owens and a great-grandson Raleigh Bolt, as well as numerous loving step- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
