A native of Orlando, Florida, she graduated from Rollins College before pursuing a master’s degree in political science and public administration through a fellowship with the University of Tennessee, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Alabama. It was during her fellowship at the University of Alabama that she met Robert (Bobby), the man who would become her husband. They married in 1960 and enjoyed 47 years together before his death in 2008. As an accomplished ballerina and ballet instructor, she pursued her love of dance through performances with the Orlando Symphony and in New York City.
Carolyn loved the Lord and, as a lifelong Methodist, was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she faithfully served on numerous church committees and boards, including the Respite Program. Carolyn cherished her family deeply and delighted in sharing stories about her grandchildren. With a true servant’s heart, she generously gave her time and talent through volunteer service.
Carolyn was a longtime member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Francis Marion Chapter, serving as chapter regent from 2007 to 2009. She also volunteered for many years with the Montgomery Area Council on Aging, delivering Meals on Wheels.
