It is with Heavenly joy and earthly sadness that I celebrate Mr. Godfrey's Homegoing.  I had/have taken the liberty to call him "my adopted Daddy," for many reasons. He always made me feel good about myself.

I was very blessed to know Grandaddy Gordon, through Edward. I got to enjoy him many times and will surley miss him. But I do know that God has a very special place for him in heaven. Mom Kelly I pray that the faith you have will help you through this time. God will heal all your pains and sorrows. Just see your Father in heaven with his Lord God and I know that will put a smile on your heart.

We were so very blessed to have Uncle Gordon in our lives. He was the example to all of us of patience, love, and good cheer. He displayed his enormous love for his family at every turn and was an inspiration. He will always be the example of a loving life. And that example was in turn displayed by his daughters and their families/children as they cared so deeply for him and each other.

Mr. Godfrey was a blessing to us at First Baptist Church of Pelham. On the day of his accident he was in our 8AM worship service all bundled up because of the frigid temperatures. I pointed out that his presence on such a cold and windy day was a testimony of his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. I heard of the accident on the 10PM news cast but did not realize it was him until Monday morning. His picture was one of those placed on our bulletin cover that day. May the God of all comfort be with all of his family in the coming days. We will meet again in Heaven where no parting ever comes again. Mike Shaw, Pastor, First Baptist Church of Pelham

Uncle Gordon was  very special.  He is now in heaven with his brothers, Ernest and Gordon.  I know he will be missed even though the last few years have been tough on him physically.  I remember him well when I was a child growing up in Montgomery.  He told many stories about his railroad career.  May you rest in peace.

   What a trophy of the Grace of God that Bro. Gordon's life became.  His legacy for the Lord is seen in all his family.  He has "builded a bridge" for all who follow his pathway of love and faithfulness to the Lord.  It's hard to think of a man who had a sweeter spirit, a greater love, or who was a kinder person.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  Our great loss is Heaven's great gain.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you Sherrell, Zeta and all your family.
