

Green Ben Best, better known as G.B., went home to be with Jesus on, March 16, 2026, at the age of 94. He was born in Opp, AL, to Benjamin Franklin Best and Lennie Mae Carter Best. He is known by his siblings as “Beego” and his nieces and nephews call him “Uncle Beego.”
When he was 15 he and his family moved from Alabama to Dade City, FL. In 1955 at the age of 23, he met his lovely wife, Junis Carnley. After a five-week courtship they married and within seven years their family would be complete.
G.B. gave his heart to Jesus in 1958 and served Him in several capacities. He was a musician, board member, and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent between 1967 – 2006 at Calvary Assembly of God in Kissimmee, FL. He would also go pick up other children for church who otherwise wouldn’t get to attend. G.B. won the “Father of the Year” Award back around 1974. At the age of 50, he went back to school to earn his G.E.D.
He worked at Comers Ranch in Dade City, FL, and Candler Ranch in Kissimmee, FL, for the majority of his career. His last place of employment was with Avatar in Poinciana. After retiring at the age of 74, they relocated to Adel, GA. He was also very active in First Assembly of God in Adel serving as a musician and a temporary Board Member. It was in Adel that they tended a garden for several years fulfilling their retirement plans.
G.B. was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Luther Asberry Best, five sisters, Myrtle Gayle Routh, Mavis Guy, Amanda Doris Best (infant), Barbara Lee Clemons, and Vesper Fillman; two nieces and three nephews and one great-grandchild, Ryann Leigh Rookstool. Surviving siblings are Millie Owens, Brenda Watanuki, and Sherri Higginson.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Junis Carnley Best; together they had five children; Wanda Hand (Guy), Ben Best (Denise), Amanda Smith (Bob), Carol Rookstool (Chris), and Melba Huntley (Lee); fifteen grandchildren; Rebecca Smith, Robin Renee Polk (Michele), Christine Best Clemens, Heath William Ettinger, Robert D. Smith, III (Amy), Nathan Rookstool (Barbara), Clark Rookstool (Abby), Sarah Jeanette Sirbaugh (Elliott); Abby Huntley, Lee William Huntley IV, Sam Rookstool (Katie), Emily Mae Best, and Elizabeth Best Curry (Robbie) Aaron Hand, Jr (Angel), Sandy Dufren (Lonnie); 31 great- grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life with Committal will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a Visitation at 10:00 AM at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 1967 County Road 33, Clio, AL.
Interment will be at a separate time at the New Life Baptist Church Cemetery, 2904 GA Highway 76, Adel, GA.
