Harold McGlynn McLemore, 70, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, died unexpectedly at his home on May 16, 2026. Born August 20, 1955, Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson McLemore Jr. and Joy McGlynn McLemore, and sister-in-law Martha Gillian McLemore.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Linda, and his daughters, Molly McGlynn McLemore (William Fenn) and Lillian Oliver McLemore, as well as his siblings Katherine Rees (Dave), Yvonne Williamson (McGowin), Andrew Jackson McLemore III (Dollene), Allen Brunson McLemore (Cybele), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Harold attended the University of Alabama, where he was poetry editor of Black Warrior Review and graduated with a degree in history. He used his degree wisely, working various jobs—oyster shucker, tugboat deck hand, ditch digger. (He often told his daughters, “Never dig a good ditch.”) In 1984 he opened (and named) the Jubilee Seafood restaurant with his friend, Bud Skinner.
In 1989, he opened Saint Nicholas Farms on his family’s land in Mitylene. He ran a choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm and a u-pick strawberry and pumpkin operation. It was one of the happiest times of his life, and he loved sharing it. Later in his career, he worked at the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, where he specialized in drip irrigation and plasticulture outreach education. He helped many people and made many friends, too many to name. He and his boss and great friend George Paris were guided by the motto: Do one good thing for the Alabama farmer today. Harold was deeply rooted in the land, and farming was one of the great joys of his life.
In the years before his death, he and his cousins restored the McLemore-Taylor Cemetery, where they reflected on the seven generations of McLemores who came before them.
A true friend, a loving husband and father, and a champion of the underdog, Harold was the man you most wanted to see walk into a room. And the one you missed the most when he left.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will follow in the Parish Hall. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Harold’s brothers and first cousins: Andrew Jackson McLemore III, Allen Brunson McLemore, Thomas Oliver McLemore Jr., Dr. Charles Thigpen McLemore, William Henry McLemore Jr., James Henry McLemore, and Samuel Clark McLemore.
Honorary Pallbearers: Billy Blake, Kenan Boswell, Joel Boyd, Billy Gibbons, Al Hooks, Matt Munson, George Paris, The Rev. Louie Skipper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Macon County Extension Office, 207 North Main Street, Tuskegee, AL 36083, or the Mary Oliver McLemore Scholarship Fund at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
