

Helen Arpin Till, of Montgomery, AL, died peacefully on August 14, 2025, at age 103. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harry Jackson “Jack” Till, in 1993, her brother, Edmund P. Arpin III, and grandson, Eric Mueller.
She is survived by her four children, Christine Till Garland and husband Frank Garland of Belle Isle, FL, Marianne Till Mueller and her husband Rainer Mueller of Oceanside, CA, Janet Till Blair and husband John Blair of Greer, SC, Peter Jackson Till and wife Suzanne Graham Till of Jacksonville, FL, also 7 grandchildren: Rebecca Garland Lucas of Austin, TX, Janet Garland Caponi and husband Michael Caponi of Charlotte NC, Adam Till Garland and wife Diana Zamora Olivares of Austin, TX, Nikki Mueller Clinton and husband Cory Clinton of San Clemente, CA, Margaret “Maggie” Blair and her husband James Boman of Greer, SC, Laura Till Barton and husband Craig Barton of Savannah, GA and Stephanie Till of Jacksonville, FL. Helen was blessed with 10 great grandchildren: Jack and Ian Chisholm, Theo and Frankie Caponi, Garrick and Etta Clinton, Claire Barton, Helen Blair-Boman, Elena and Richard Garland-Zamora.
Helen was the first child of Janet Leavens Arpin and Edmund P. Arpin Jr. She was born on Oct. 30, 1921, in Neenah, WI. She had one sibling, her brother Judge Edmund P. Arpin, III. Helen graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1943, with a major in Spanish. She pledged Chi Omega sorority and remained active in her chapter throughout her life. In 1945, she met Jack Till while he was working on his medical degree at Northwestern. When Jack went to the Philippines, Helen served in the Red Cross in Japan until 1946 and married Jack in Neenah, WI in 1947.
Helen and Jack moved to Montgomery in 1951 to start Jack’s surgery practice. Helen had 4 children and stayed involved in the community.
No matter how busy she was, she always had time for her children and grandchildren. She was very generous to her family and community and had a positive, can-do attitude through every challenge. She will be greatly missed by all.
Helen donated her time to activities in the Montgomery community. She worked for the American Red Cross Blood Bank and was a board member and Chairman of Volunteers at St. Jude’s Hospital in addition to being a member of the St. Margaret’s Hospital Foundation. She was also passionate about art. She volunteered at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and was a board member and treasurer there for many years. She worked at the Information Desk at the Blount Museum until she was 98 years old, faithfully greeting visitors from far and wide. She donated the “Till Fountain” at the museum in memory of her beloved husband, Jack. Helen and Jack attended Westminster Presbyterian Church for 10 years and then Trinity Presbyterian Church for 50 years. On Wednesdays you could always find her at Trinity Presbyterian Church having lunch with the staff and then answering the phone at the information desk. She was a long-time member of the Berean Sunday school class.
Helen was passionate about women’s rights and voting. She was a lifetime member of the League of Women Voters and always worked at
the polls. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels for 20 years and she was on the board of The American Cancer Society.
For social outlets, Helen was a member of Le Dames Mardi Gras committee and an associate member of the long-standing literary group, the “No Name Club”. Once a month, members give a talk on a subject of interest. Helen was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs; some that lasted a lifetime, and the women became lifelong friends.
The Family would like to express deep gratitude to: Jennings Professional Home Care Services, Helen’s wonderful caregivers, Mary, Carrie, Frances, Tena, Kim and Linda, Baptist South Hospital including the doctors, nurses and staff of floor 5 Main, Baptist Hospice and of course the many neighbors and friends that watched over her.
Helen is in the care of Leak Memory Chapel. Her memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church 1728 Hull St, Montgomery, AL 36104 on Saturday, September 6th, at 11AM. Visitation will be held an hour before the service.
