Helon Dunn Haack

Helon was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to Marvin Cornelius Dunn and Willie Lenora Huie Dunn. She graduated from Lanier High School, where she was active in the Glee Club. She pursued a career with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, beginning in the Plant Division and later serving in the Weights and Measures Division and the Agriculture Commissioner’s Office. She retired as a Stenographer III in the State Veterinarian’s Office in 1967. In 1958, she married Robert “Bob” Otto Haack Sr.; they shared 58 years together before Bob’s passing in 2016.

Helon was a devoted wife and mother who faithfully supported school activities, Scouting, and PTA events. She was also deeply involved in the Methodist Church, where she supported the Silver Years Senior Program and served on the worship committee and altar guild. She especially enjoyed training the acolytes, preparing the altar paraments, and helping with the Hanging of the Greens. Helon loved animals, gardening, sewing, quilting, antiques, and genealogy. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends.

Helon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob.

She is survived by her son, Robert Otto Haack Jr. (Margaret) of Huntsville, Alabama; her daughter, Rebecca Ann Haack (Lisa Cabrera) of Moody, Alabama; her granddaughters, Allison Parcus (Jason) and Jessica Johnson (Zach); and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, and Luke Parcus, and Emmett and Ellis Johnson. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Funeral Home, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, 36109. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Rose Parlor at Leak Memory, followed by a graveside service at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Glaucoma Research Foundation or to a local animal shelter.

The family extends its deep appreciation to the care staff at Fleming Farms Senior Living Community and to Katie Payne and her staff at Loving Spaces Care Home, both in Huntsville, Alabama.
