

STROUP, Hobart P., 77, of Montgomery passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011 in Montgomery. He was born in 1934 in Pocahontas, Virginia and as a child he always dreamed of joining the military. In 1953, that dream became a reality when at the age of 18 he joined the Air Force where he trained to become a fire medic. He served tours in Maine, Alaska, England, Vietnam, Georgia and Alabama. Of the places he served, he enjoyed England the most because of the great scenery. Hobart retired from the Air Force in 1974, but continued to serve as a fire medic in Civil Service until his final retirement in 1994. His favorite hobbies included boating, bass fishing, and watching classic western movies. He had great pride in being blessed to have had the opportunity to serve his family and country for so many years. Survivors include his daughter: Sherry Gorsuch and husband, Robert; Sons: Dale and wife Lisa; Randy and wife Donna; Bart and wife Angie; Greg and wife Samantha; Sisters: Louise and Margie; Brothers: Howard and Bobby Stroup;12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Leak Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Leak- Memory Chapel. Interment will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Alabama National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
