Ames, Hugh Thomas (Tommy) 71, a longtime resident of Millbrook, AL, died peacefully at home on August 8, 2026, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Thomas Ames and Marjorie Myers Ames. He is survived by his sister, Marcia Livengood; his loving wife of 34 years, Donna Ames; his son, Matthew Thomas Ames (Sara); and his daughter, Lindsey Uptain Stubblefield (Ryan). He was known as “GrandDa” and “Old Daddy” by his grandchildren, Kyndall Ryan Stubblefield, Korbyn Bryce Stubblefield, Carson Thomas Ames, and Everly Hue Ames.
Tommy was born in Las Vegas, NV on June 19, 1955. He graduated from Stanhope Elmore High School. Immediately after graduation, he began working for Bell South/AT&T and retired after over 46 years of service.
Tommy was an avid hunter, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. While he was ill, he faithfully watched the Gardendale First Baptist Church service online every Sunday morning.
Tommy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren with all of his heart. He was the one who showed up, provided life lessons, and never let anyone down. Tommy allowed each of us to learn and grow gracefully, while always being a pillar of strength to support our every need. We will never be able to show enough gratitude for all that he meant to us. He will forever be our hero.
