Born on December 18, 1958, Hugh grew up in Montgomery and attended The Montgomery Academy. He later earned his degree from Georgia State University. After obtaining his real estate license in Georgia, Hugh worked with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services and spent many years living in Atlanta before returning to his hometown of Montgomery.
Hugh is survived by his siblings: Paul Moses Shashy, Jr.; William Andrew Shashy (Mary); Peter Scott Shashy (Sara); Ann Shashy Stewart (Chuck); and James Edgar Shashy. He also leaves behind a devoted group of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Nancy Shashy, and his nephew, Chuck Stewart.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the Last Supper Garden at Greenwood Cemetery.
Hugh was known for his thoughtful reflections, once saying, “The Past Must Equal The Present Must Equal The Future.” In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice
