Ida Beatrice Dozier Lowry, “Bee”, 89, of Helena, AL, passed away January 24, 2021. She was born August 12, 1931, in Chance, Alabama; the daughter of Slater Vaiden Dozier and Stella Beatrice Gibson Dozier. She graduated from Thomasville High School and attended the University of Montevallo for 2 years before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and remained close to most of her sorority sisters throughout her lifetime. With her degree being in secondary education, she taught school in several locations which included Trenton and Roberta, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee. In her later years, she became interested in the business of planting, raising and the harvesting of timber.
In her free time, she enjoyed spending time reading, painting with acrylics, playing the piano, traveling, and attending plays. She was a good cook who always wanted to make sure everyone was happy and well-fed at gatherings and was noted for having her habit of asking many, many times if everyone had gotten enough to eat--- so many times that it became almost humorous to those who knew her well. She was very loyal to her friends and family and to her Christian faith. Strong within, she had battled cancer 3 times throughout her life; never perceiving herself a victim of the disease, but rather a thankful survivor.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Kenneth Lowry, her son, Lowell Lowry and his wife, Diane Kozlowski Lowry, her parents, and seven siblings who included Slater Matthew Dozier, M.D., Jack Lanier Dozier, M.D., Francis Leonard Dozier, Daisy Lucy Dozier Warren, Dorothy Louise Dozier, Edward Vaiden Dozier, and Charles LeBaron Dozier.
Survivors include a son, Slater Benjamin Lowry, M.D. of Columbus, Mississippi; a daughter, India Beatrice Lowry Collins (Keith) of Alabaster, Alabama; four grandsons, Dallas and Tyler Brock, Mason and Michael Collins, a granddaughter, Victoria Pitts(Dustin) and two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Payden Pitts.
Ida Beatrice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. “Grandma Bee” and “Bee-Bee” were the names her grandchildren affectionately called her. She was a longtime member of Morningview Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. She was a resident of Maplewood Lane Assisted Living Facility in Helena, AL for the last 7 years.
