Mr. J. Bryant Carlisle

March 28, 1923April 11, 2013

CARLISLE, J. BRYANT, age 90, of Montgomery, Alabama was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Bryant was born on March 28, 1923 in China Grove, Alabama. He devoted his life to loving and serving his family and was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, friend and servant of the Lord. He was affectionately known as “Dandy” by his six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and countless other “children” he adopted as his own. His compassionate heart, willingness to love and serve others, and generous spirit will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children Jimmy (Marsha) Carlisle, Lynn (Randy) Williams, and Gail (RJ) Caldwell; his grandchildren Dan (Courtney) Carlisle, Shana Williams (Tom) Cash, Craig (Susan) Carlisle, Chad (Brooke) Williams, Mandi Carlisle (David) Rouse, and Josh (Beth) Caldwell; and his great grandchildren Caroline and Callie Carlisle; Taylor Cash; Cooper and Claire Rouse; Bryant, Brayden, and Anna Claire Carlisle; Madeline, Hudson, and Mary Hollon Williams.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eunice Bedsole Carlisle and their infant daughter, Susan Frances Carlisle.

Bryant was the youngest of five siblings born to Charlie Moore and Jessie Pearl Ellis Carlisle. His siblings included Charles M. Jr., Leonard D., Joseph G., and W. Frances Carlisle.

The love story shared by Bryant and Eunice is a testimony to the legacy they lived. They met on a blind date on January 29, 1945 and that night Bryant told Eunice he was going to marry her. Two nights later when they saw each other again, she asked if the offer was still good and they were married five weeks later on March 9, 1945. The Lord blessed them with 67 years of marriage filled with love, happiness and the bond of Christ.

Bryant served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a Montgomery County dairy farmer and was selected as Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year by the Montgomery Junior Chamber of Commerce. Later he became a successful real estate broker and investor. He was a faithful member of Forest Park Baptist Church for 51 years serving in many capacities.

The funeral and celebration of his life will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Gaines and Dr. Bobby DuBois officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Leak Memory Chapel. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and longtime friend Kit Brendle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity.

Gail and Lynn, We are so very sorry about Bryant's death but one thing for sure, we know where he is. You only had to be around Bryant and Eunice to see what a great love they had for one another, the Lord and for other people. You could always see the love for the Lord in them where ever they were. They were both the Real Thing. Bryant has told us many times about their love story at our Forest Park lunches when we met once a month for Fellowship. I could listen to him talk about it over and over. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We loved that sweet couple.

Gail and Lynn I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I did not know him but from what I have heard he was a very loving father and faithful christian. I know he will be missed very much.

I think of Bryant Carlisle as to me the last of the great "elders" of my family. He was a man of great faith, which he lived as witnessed by so many. I can say he was the rock for me during my mother's illness, and passing which I'll will be eternally gratful, as I know he did for others. A kinder, and sweeter spirit I've not known. My mom and dad loved him so as well. I deeply respected him, and will miss just knowing he is not here with us.
