James Clifton “Jimmy” Dykes, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 23, 1944, to Charles Jack and Sara Hall Dykes, Jimmy was lovingly known as “Pop Pop” to his family.
Jimmy was truly one of the kindest souls you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. He had a gentle heart, a love for life’s simple pleasures, and a special way of making those around him feel loved.
An avid beach-goer, Jimmy found some of his greatest happiness with his toes in the sand and the sun on his face. He loved walking miles along the shoreline, collecting seashells and sand dollars, and, of course, perfecting his suntan—something he always took very seriously.
Jimmy also had a lifelong appreciation for vintage cars, owning and enjoying classics that reflected his love for things with history and character. A passionate NASCAR and Alabama Crimson Tide football fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams and drivers. In his latter years, he enjoyed watching old westerns on television.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Jack and Sara Hall Dykes, and his beloved wife of 39 years, Kathryn Anita Dykes.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Jack Dykes III (Joy); his children, Samantha Givens (Doug), Jennifer Nelson (Pat), and Deloy Nelson (Carla); his grandchildren, Bailey Hayes, Melissa Nelson, and Ellie Givens; and his great-grandson, Braxton Jones. Special friends and neighbors, Bill and Rose Moore; Connie Yero; Aniyah Yero
Jimmy will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his kind and generous heart, and the simple joys that made his life so special. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the stories they share, and the countless cherished moments spent together. Though he will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved him will forever carry a little piece of Jimmy in their hearts.
