James is survived by his wife, Bonnie McGregor; son Eric McGregor; daughter-in-law Dana McGregor; daughter Ellen Edwards; and son-in-law Yancy Edwards; brother Clifton McGregor and sister-in-law Donna McGregor; grandson Taylor McGregor, granddaughter-in-law Vaida McGregor and grandson Joel Edwards.
James was preceded in death by; father Virgil McGregor and mother Ovie Ellen McGregor; sister Grace Dearing.
Most of Mr. McGregor's working life was spent at the Whirlpool plant in a variety of capacities. In his young adulthood, he worked with a lumber company and established himself as a good carpenter. He was know for his woodworking, "He could build furniture from a catalog picture. He also crafted all kinds of things from leather." Enjoying outdoor adventures and building projects were qualities that made him ideal for serving as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts. He and Eric were a part of the invitation only Scout organization: Order of the Arrow. A member of the Snowdoun Baptist Church, he was actively involved in church too.
A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Leak Memory Chapel, 907 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL. A visitation will occur Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will occur Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Leak Memory Chapel. Committal will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
