James was a graduate of the University of Alabama in engineering. Later he was awarded the Master of Engineering. He spent 24 years in the Air Force including a year in Vietnam. His last station was Washington D. C. where he was the Base Civil Engineer commander, part of his duty was always making sure Air Force 1 had a clean airport.
After the military, James retired to Millbrook and worked for the State of Alabama for 15 years as an engineer for the Highway Dept.
He loved his family and spent much time with them. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Colin.
He loved his church and was always involved. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and visitor to the sick. He was truly a man used of God.
James is survived by his wife Frankie, Two sons James Jr (Teresa) and Ken, Grandson Colin, sister Omie Mae (Billy). He is preceded in death by his parents Jerry Ivon and Ornie Mae.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Feb 8, 2021. The funeral will be held at Coosada Baptist Church, 5687 Coosada Road, Coosada, AL 36020. There will be a visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with the funeral service from 11:30 - 12:30 and the burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
