James William Poitevint, II passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 70. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee to James and Dorothy Poitevint. When Jim was a young boy his family moved to Huntsville, Alabama. He had such good memories of fun with the numerous boys in the neighborhood. They played ball, swam in the culvert, and pulled stunts, even on the adults. He laughed at pictures of himself wearing shorts and his cowboy boots. After high school, he entered Martin College; and then transferred to the University of North Alabama where he graduated with a degree in psychology. Jim moved to Montgomery for his first job and that remained his home until his death. Jim began his own business in 1980, and was blessed with success for 40 years. He loved his work and considered his many clients as friends. Jim loved his church, St. James UMC. He felt blessed to have such wonderful ministers. Lester and Walter helped keep him on the straight and narrow while Mike provided such warmth and care. Jim looked forward to each sermon, especially when Walter would break out into song. Jim was dapper and neatly dressed always. He was loyal and honest. You could count on him to keep your secret. Jim was a storyteller at heart. He could make you believe the most outrageous stories until he would give you that sly smile of his. He had a quick wit, and could come up with the best quips, just off the cuff. He said he probably laughed more at his own jokes than anyone. His wit was a gift to everyone because he kept them laughing and entertained. When you think of Jim, remember his smile, his wit and laughter. Left to cherish these memories are his loving wife of 35 years, Penelope Powell Poitevint; daughter, Heather J. Daffin (Tyson); grandchildren, Witt Daffin, Laura Tyson Daffin; brother, Robert Wooldridge “Ridge” Poitevint; sisters, Ginger Lundstrom (Jay) and Pat Woolen; as well as nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James UMC or the charity of your choice.
