James Ralph Skipper, age 90, of Wetumpka, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 21, 2021. James was born January 31, 1931 in Crenshaw County and grew up farming family land in Honoraville, AL
James is survived by daughter Teresa Bechard (Mike); brother Tommy Skipper(Sue); granddaughter Olivia Bechard.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Mary Newton Skipper; father Bowie Skipper (Lexie); grandson Preston James, sibling Earl Skipper, sibling LD Skipper, sibling James Skipper, sibling Webb Skipper, sibling Cumi Wasden, and sibling Kendrick Skipper, sibling Terry Skipper, and sibling Phillip Skipper.
Serving as pallbearers are Eli Foster, Jacob Foster, Keith Holley, Keith Yarnell, Keiven Mixson, Josh Oswalt. Honorary pallbearers: Mike Bechard, Joe Hamilton and Charles Weldon.
Served in US Army for one year ending May 20, 1953; Fort Sam Houston, TX; rank Private E-1; served in Korean Conflict; Received Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Us Service Medal.
He retired from the Montgomery Water Works after 35 years of service, he was an avid fisherman. Past member of the Exchange Club of Montgomery and Morningview Baptist Church and Progress Sunday School.
A burial for James will be held Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. A visitation will occur Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. A funeral service will occur Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Montgomery Council on Aging (MACOA) or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
