James was born in Nashville, TN, and grew up in Franklin, TN. He graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1957, and enlisted that same year in the Air Force, working on fighter jets as an electrician. After leaving the military, he also worked several years as an electrician.
He met and married the love of his life, Betty, in 1965. He, already having one son, became an instant father to 4 little girls. They added one daughter to the family and later adopted a son. James started his own business as a General Contractor in 1972, and took great pride in working hard for his family. He provided much more than material things through the years for so many in his family, and became the one many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren looks to for help and guidance, just as his children had. He often laughed and would ask one of the girls, “Do you know how much money your Mom saved me by already having you girls?” He was the rock of our family and life will not be the same without him here with us. We have the promise from God to be able to see him again one day, and we know that what God promises will certainly come to be. We look with anxious hearts toward the day when we can once again put our arms around him and tell him that we love him.
