Jerry Knutson

Jerry Knutson, born in Estherville, Iowa and a long time resident of Sprague, AL, died peacefully after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Larsen and is survived by children: Byron Knutson, Kristi Michaelis and Kathy Gardner and their respective spouses: Barbara Knutson, Kenneth Goldstein and Rushing B. Green, Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren: Adam Gardner, Eric Gardner, Jeffery Fisher, Trent Fisher, Ryan Fisher and by great-grandchildren: Larsen Gardner, Ashley Fisher and Tristen Fisher, and by his sister Marge Tokheim.

He began his Air Force career when he volunteered in the Army Air Corps, graduating from flight training school in CA, 1942. He retired in 1962 from Maxwell AFB, having taught at Air War College and Command and Staff School, and flying throughout much of the world. He was a member of Messiah Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the AOPA. His lay ministry work included past presidency of the South Camp, Montgomery Gideons, and over 70 years combined ministry with Kilby Prison and John Knox Manor Nursing Home.

Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Tues., May 17 at Leak Memory and funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM , Wed., May 18 at the same.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International for Bibles.
