Jessie Mercer Southern

Jessie Mercer Southern of Montgomery, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at her home at the age of 92 after an extended illness. Funeral mass service will be conducted at St. Bede’s Catholic Church at 10:00 am, Tuesday December 20, 2016 with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home on Monday December 19, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Mrs. Southern was a devoted wife, mother and “Momaw”. She was preceded in death by parents; Robert L. and Bessie Jewel Mercer, a brother; Joe F. Mercer, a sister; Sue Barganier and her husband of 69 years; Ralph F. Southern. Jessie was a Veteran of WWII serving in the WACs at Fort Robinson, NE where she met her husband, Ralph. She is survived by her four children; Robert J. Southern (Mary) of Tallassee, Janet S. Treat of Montgomery, Myron L. Southern (Karen) of Eclectic and Darlene S. Davis (Alan) of Montgomery, and by her brothers; Billy R. Mercer (Betty) of Verbena and Jack L. Mercer (Cammie) of Fairhope. She has four grandchildren; Robert Southern of Tallassee, Amber Siegler (Joe) of Omaha, NE, Jessica McWhorter (Patrick) of Montgomery and John Treat II of Beaufort, SC, as well as three great-grandchildren; Aaron, Audrey and Colton.
