John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Diffly Bird; son John Bird Jr. (Tracy Francisco); daughter Sharon Bird; son Mike Bird (Allison); and son Mark Bird (Laura); grandchildren Jordan Bird, Jonesy Bird (Joey Bradley), Joli Bird (Ryan Pinkham), Michael Bird (Collins), Amber Bird, and Diffly Bird; great grandchildren Madeline Jean Bradley and Allen Bird. He was preceded in death by his parents W.A.T. and Maggie P. Bird, brothers William Bird and Joseph Bird, and sister Betty Pettyjohn.
A member of the first graduating class of Robert E. Lee High School, he was the founding owner of Birdwood Floors and a member of the Alabama Army National Guard. Nicknamed the "floor doctor" he grew the business for 57+ years but he also served several tours in the Guard. He enjoyed golf and working on his lake house but he was known best as loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A visitation for Mr. Bird will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, followed by a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM. Interment will complete the services at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery after the celebration of life.
Serving as pallbearers are Ray Worley, Steve Lander, Chuck Grant, Steve Yarema, Conrad Phillips and Billy "Cowboy" Williams.
