
John Patrick Hazel, a beloved, hard-working, and devoted husband and father, passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on April 8, 1943, in New York, John later moved to Alabama, where he became a cherished resident of Deatsville.
In his early life, John was born in New York and eventually relocated to Alabama, where he built a life and career. He dedicated many years to working in IT for Regions Bank. Additionally, he served as a Constable for Elmore County for 20 years and retired from that elected position. He was also the Treasurer for the Holtville / Slapout Volunteer Fire Department for a decade.
John was married to Karen Leigh Simmons Hazel, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Barbara Hazel. He leaves behind his wife, Karen Leigh Simmons Hazel; one son, Justin Hazel; two daughters, Lauren Hazel and Wendy Hazel; one stepdaughter, Kelly Reagan; and one stepson, Patrick Reagan, all of whom will cherish his memories.
The Celebration of Life Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Celebration of Life Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm. With burial to follow immediately after the service at Coosa River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mitts Chapel Baptist Church, located at 935 Cold Springs Rd, Deatsville, AL 36022.
