John Thomas Holmes

John Thomas Holmes age 90, of Wetumpka, AL, born in Brooklyn, NY, passed away on August 5, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Rose Holmes and his sister, Dorothy Holmes. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Scarlotte Holmes; his son, John Edward Holmes {Debbie}; his daughter, Lisa Dzitko {Steve}; his grandchildren, Steven Dzitko {Amanda}, Kevin Dzitko {Marilena}, and John Christopher Holmes {Lauren}; and his five great grandchildren. John had three bonus children; Sandy Barron, Paula Daskalakis {Charles}, and Edward Punt {Diana}. He had nine bonus grandchildren.

John worked as a lineman for NYT (New York Telephone) and later worked in management. He served many years in the National Guard, was a fifty year member of the Masonic lodge, and was a perpetual member of Pythagoras Lodge #358. He was also District Commander for the US Power Squadron.

He enjoyed model trains and railroad history, and was an avid car enthusiast. He was an outstanding paddle ball player, and he loved going out to lunch with his friends. He enjoyed going on cruises and driving around the country in his RV. He loved a good seafood boil, Italian food, and an occasional Long Island iced tea.

He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Donations can be made to St. Jude's or Boys Town.

A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
