John William Messick

John William (JW) Messick, age 80 of Montgomery, AL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2,2023. JW was born November 12, 1942 to Joe Tom and Ella Mae Messick. JW is preceded in death by his parents Joe Tom and Ella Mae Messick, father and mother in law WA and Viola Gardner, sisters Eloise Pryor, Loette Lee and Josie Terry and most especially his precious “Daddy’s Girl” Kris Elizabeth Messick.

JW is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Genye Messick, daughters Kelli Messick and Melissa (Scott) Steward, grandsons Wesley and Mason Steward, sisters Sue (Gus) McLendon, Faye McFarland, brother James Messick, brother in law’s Calvin Pryor, Maurice Lee, John (Debbie) Gardner Sr, a host of nieces and nephews and his faithful dog companions JoJo and Major.

He never met a stranger and was well loved by everyone. He was a die-hard Alabama fan and loved working in his yard. He was a hardworking man devoted to his family and a faithful member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church.

A visitation for JW will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church 3604 Pleasant Ridge Road, Montgomery, AL 36109 followed by a celebration of life beginning at 2:00 pm. Service will conclude afterwards at Forest Hills Cemetery in Snowdoun, AL.
