John F. Porterfield

John Franklin Porterfield, 93, passed away January 11, 2013. John was born in Georgiana, AL and retired from the federal government. After his retirement there, he worked for many years in the cattle industry at Hooper Stockyard. He was also an Army veteran of WWII serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters and was awarded 4 bronze stars. He is survived by his daughter Linda Weeks; son: Wayne (Cindy) Porterfield both of Montgomery; brother James Edward (Marge) Porterfield Jr. of Ithaca, NY; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces: Virginia Anderson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Dara (Tim) Dalmata of Allston, MA; nephews: Shelby Gene Fuller, Canton, GA; Robert Fuller, Manitowoc, WI; numerous cousins; special friends: Carole Tillery, Truman and Phyllis Jones, Darrell and Colleen Sanders, and his weekly support group friends. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Myrtlewood Cemetery in Ft. Deposit, AL. Pastor Dennis Carlson officiating.
