Johnny Maiben Portis passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born in 1933 in Sunny South, Alabama, to Jack and Olive Portis. He graduated from Mississippi State University and joined the US Air Force in which he served our country for the next 25 years. Upon retirement from the USAF, Johnny went on to work in real estate residential sales. Survivors include his loving wife, Lisa Holmes Portis; his children, Vicki Lynn Portis, Jon Cole Portis, Sr. (Joy), Morgan Ashli Portis, John Tucker Portis; grandchildren, Jason Prescott Wohlford (Amy), Katie Wohlford McCracken (Billy), Sarah Kathryn Stallings (Thomas), Zoe Tewabech Portis, Elizabeth Mikell Portis, Samuel Wilder Xin Portis, James Ning Portis, Jon Cole Portis, Jr., Emelyn Tarikua Portis, Elijah James Portis, Traye Christian Portis; Zachary Solomon Zou Portis; five great grandchildren; siblings, Nettie Jo Cochran (Ed), and Ben Wilder Portis (Carolyn). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Sheryl Portis Wohlford.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 10:00am at Leak Memory Chapel with a service at 11:00am. Rev. Neil Epler officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Wohlford, Samuel Portis, Jim Portis, Jon Cole Portis, Jr., Mark Coleman, and Eddie Cochran. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Portis, Carlos Muniz, Mark Johnson, and Kevin Law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Frazer UMC missions or Lifeline Children’s Services.
