Joseph Edward Helms, age 84, of Montgomery, AL passed away on Tuesday November 7, 2017. Joseph was born March 15, 1933 to Bettie Davis Helms and Nolan Helms. A life long Montgomery resident, Joe Ed, enjoyed decorating ceramics, bowling and choral singing. He was an avid fan of Auburn football and the Washington Redskins.
Mr. Helms is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan Jones Helms; sister-in-law Pam Helms of Atlanta, GA and sister-in-law Nancy Bradley (James) of Lancaster, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Nolan, Frank, and John Alvin; his sisters; Alice Claire Butler, Emma Russell Green, Betty Lane Ivey, Lee McNeese, Jane Marie Garner and devoted brother-in-law, Pat Garner Sr.
A visitation for Joe Ed will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 10:00 AM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside will follow in Greenwood Serenity Cemetery.
