

Born in Demopolis, Alabama, on May 29, 1925. Joseph moved to this area at the age of five, where he would spend the remainder of his life building lasting friendships and a respected career.
Joseph served his country with honor as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. His military service earned him the Asia Theatre of Operations Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He remained deeply proud of his service throughout his life.
Following the war, Joseph devoted 40 years to Southern Sash Supply, where he faithfully served as Secretary-Treasurer and Controller.
Joseph was a charter member of American Legion Post No. 29 in Destin (AMVETS), where he enjoyed the fellowship of fellow veterans and continued his commitment to those who served.
Outside of work, Joseph embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved fishing, swimming, and playing golf, remaining active on the golf course until the age of 86. His appreciation for the outdoors, his quiet strength, and his gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Hogue Simon; his son, Joseph Simon, Jr.; his daughter, Jill Tishia Simon; his daughter-in-law, Elise Wise Simon, wife of Johnnie Simon; his grandson, Johnnie Hogue Simon, Jr.; his parents, Ruth Monnier Simon and Harry Simon; his brothers, James Simon and Harry Simon; and his sisters, Ruth Simon Doster and Clara Simon Johnson.
He is survived by his loving sons, Johnnie Hogue Simon and Jeffrey Martin Simon; his grandchildren, Tanya Simon Azar, Trip Hammond, and Melissa Simon Brady (Ricky); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Shay Azar (Aubrie), Simon Azar (Kennady), Mary Elise Brady Zilcosky (Harley), Betsy Brady, Richard Brady, Jr., Lissie Simon, Johnnie Simon III, Maggie Simon and Luke Simon.
Joseph will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, businessman, and friend. His life was marked by faithful service to his country, steadfast dedication to his profession, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of honor, kindness, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
No Visitation will be held. Family and Friends assemble at graveside July 8, 2026 at 10:00 AM in Greenwood Cemetery.
