Joe, my friend, my brother. I still remember the night you called me & said "Greeny, I need a big favor". Well, being the police, this statement is usually followed by "I got a ticket" or "I need some advice". You said "No one else can know & you have to promise to keep it a secret" now my mind was really going crazy! I said no problem brother, what can I do to help you! You explained to me how you have been seeing this lady & how much you loved her, you wanted to ask her to marry you in a way she will never forget! Well, we got together & figured it out, we did our reconnaissance, mum was the word! I remember asking you "She is going to say yes, isn't she?" Two days later I was in position waiting for yall to pass by & slip right in behind yall. I followed yall for exactly 2.1 miles & pulled yall over into a church parking lot. I removed you from the car, leaving her in, & was trying my hardest not to crack up & blow it for you! You said "You got to make it look real!" I said no problem my friend I got this! So now I get Gini out of the vehicle & bring her back & have both of yall stand in front of my car. I ask you if I can search the vehicle, which you played it well, by asking why. You finally gave in saying sure go ahead & I did. I returned with a Crown Royal bag & asked Gini if she knew what was in the bag. By now she is getting aggrevated & it's showing & you could hear it in her voice! I told her that what was in that bag could get her in trouble. Just as she asked what was in it & she thought ya'll were going to jail, I told her I was not going to tell her, I was going to make you show her. I handed you the bag, you got down on a knee, removed a box from the bag & opened the box to a glorious sparkling diamond ring, & asked her if she would marry you. She stood there for a second, tears coming to her eyes, so I finally told her she had 2 options, she could go to jail or she could say yes! YES it was & you both were on top of the world! Thank you for being my friend, you will truly be missed, Love Always!

Joe was the most positive man I have ever known! He will be sorely missed by all those lives that he touched. "Joe, one day my friend we shall pick guitars and drink free bourbon from old fruit jars on that wrap-around porch in the sky....we'll sing hallelujah..bye and bye...we'll sing hallelujah....bye and bye" I love you, my guitar playing, passion-sharing, genuine and gentle brother....your work was done, thank you for being there for me, when you didnt even know it!!!!

A week after his cruel death, I'm sending love and peace to Joe wherever his honest, pure, and passionate soul is right now. Joe took me in when I moved to Montgomery four years ago and was always kind and thoughtful to me. It was reassuring for me to know that Joe and Ziggy were always playing somewhere in town, and I always enjoyed going to see them. It was great to meet you in this life, Joe. Arrivederci.
To Gini, Joe's family, and his closest friends, may time help you make peace with our loss.

I remember the first time I saw you play on stage with Zig in 2000. From that moment you guys had me hooked. All the times we shared talking about life and becoming friends over the past 12 years will always be with me. Thank you for being you. See if you can get me on the guest list at the big show.
