
Alma Irene Bolton Mason and Oscar Thomas Mason.
Her family moved to Montgomery, Alabama when she was 9. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School at the age of 16. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Milligan Black on June 11,1950 at Dalraida Methodist Church. They had three children. In 1958, the family moved to LeGrand, Alabama. After her third child began school, she went to work as a bookkeeper. She retired in 1979, as her second and third grandchildren were born.
When Jim retired, they traveled to different states and countries. He died in 1991. In 2006, she married a second time to Elton McGaha at Whitfield Methodist Church. They also traveled. She became
a widow again, with his death in 2020. Joyce loved and provided for her family. She was affectionately known as "Nanny" as she became a grandparent. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed traveling, and was proficient with lawn equipment. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and one grandson, Adam Kinsman Wolfe.
She is survived by her children; Janice Irene Black Wolfe, James Thomas Black (Patricia), Jerry Paul Black (Sandra), ten grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation or the Ramer Methodist Church in Ramer, Alabama.
Her graveside service will be from White Chapel Funeral Home at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, August 16,2025 at 2:00 pm.
