
Judd Freeman Osten, resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away November 27, 2023. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 1, 1941 to Jane Cobb Osten and George Frederick Osten. While he moved several times growing up, he graduated from Baton Rouge High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1960. It’s during his time in Baton Rouge he met the love of his life Mary (Betsy) Elizabeth Watt. He then attended and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1964 as part of the 24th Company graduating in nuclear engineering. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Daniel Boone where he was part of the first missile submarine assigned to the Pacific Fleet.
After receiving his honorable discharge in 1969, he attended The University of Texas at Austin School of Law and received his juris doctorate in only two years.
He and Betsy married on June 10, 1964, a Wednesday, which was the soonest date after his graduation before he reported for duty. They spent their 59 years living all around the United States as well as three other countries. Most of their years were spent in Alpharetta, Georgia but hold dear their time in Woodville, Mississippi. They have two children Charles McGehee Osten (Ann) and Susan Osten Mickler (Rob) and seven grandchildren Charles McGehee Osten Jr, Katie Lee Knight (Ben), Alexandria Michelle Manning, Judd Robert Osten, Randell R. Mickler IV, Mark Anthony Osten and Mason Leonard Mickler along with one great granddaughter Kaia Lee Knight.
Judd is preceded in death by both his parents and his in-laws Leonard and Elizabeth Watt.
Graveside services will be held at Bowling Green Cemetery in Woodville, Mississippi for family and friends Wednesday November 29 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask donations to be made to the Woodville Civic Club by mailing to Post Office Box 1055, Woodville, MS 39669.
