Leon Morris Capouano

Leon Capouano, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the age of 95. Leon was born on January 3, 1931 in Atlanta, Georgia to Esther and Morris Capouano. The family moved to Montgomery 9 years later. Leon graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. He then attended the University of Alabama for his undergraduate degree. He began law school at Emory University in Atlanta, where he met his future wife, Sylvia Arogeti. Sylvia and Leon married in August 1956. He finished his law degree at the University of Alabama. After teaching law at New York University, Sylvia and Leon made their home in Montgomery where Leon had a successful law practice. He was a lifelong member of Agudath Israel Etz Ahayem Synagogue.

He is predeceased by his parents Esther and Morris Capouano, sisters Clara Berns and Pearl Hasson, and brother Al Capp. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, children, Esther Capouano, Morris (Carol) Capouano, Renee Capouano, and Jaclyn (Roy) Glasner. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dr. Max (Samantha) Capouano, Millie Capouano, Reina Glasner, and Levi Glasner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held at Leak Memory on Tuesday, June 9 at Leak Memory Chapel located at 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 11 AM will graveside immediately following. Rabbi Zari Sussman will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Max Capouano, Levi Glasner, Roy Glasner, DJ Pascale, Jack Arogeti, and Joel Arogeti. Honorary pallbearers will be Morris Capp, Raymond Cohen, Richard Hanan, Joe Warren, Xavier Rogers, and numerous nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to express their profound thanks and gratitude to his caregivers: Xavier Rogers, Ben Hampton, and Josh Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Agudath Israel Etz Ahayem synagogue, the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama, or the charity of your choice.
